In the last two decades we have witnessed the emergence of many new and exciting subgenres of heavy metal. The tenth and final song of our 2020 concept album sums up the evolution of the last 20 years of metal in one four-minute song. Get ready for a helluva ride!
After the turn of the millenium there has been a revival of the great metal from the past and heavy metal is now stronger than ever in its many different shapes. The same period also witnessed the popularity of many new subgenres, like symphonic metal, folk metal and, not least, different kinds of metalcore. Also, exciting subgenres like black 'n' roll, blackgaze and kawaii metal were created in the last two decades.
The tenth and final single of our 2020 metal history project is entitled "Too Close (to See Clearly)". The song aims to sum up those last 20 years of metal in under four minutes!
"I'm sure we missed something," says band leader and historian Torfinn Sirnes, "because it's impossible to see the full picture without the necessary historical distance but I think we got a lot of great genres thrown in there. We might do another shot at it in 10 years!"
The song was once again mastered by the great Mika Jussila (Nightwish, H.I.M. Finntroll).
